News; 12v converter

Published: Sunday 04 July, 2010

The 12v power converter is one of the most
common types of power source for consumer electronics that require external
power supply. If you have 240v and you need a power supply of 12v, converter is
probably significant. If you specifically want the processor, imagine you are
actually looking for a converter of light, or you are someone who dabbles in
electronics. Most people are really looking for a 12v power source however.
This is also called a 12v adapter, but it is the same.

No matter what you are trying to power, you
need to know much about its power requirement. This includes knowing what
voltage you need, how much current is called (power) and if there are special
considerations regarding the polarity of the input energy. This last part is
relevant if the device has voltage direct current - in which case the internal
circuitry will be very sensitive to voltage polarity. If the AC voltage is
specified, it simply means that the circuits for rectification of alternating
current to direct current are present inside the device rather than the
external power supply. In principle, the AC plug can be inserted any way you
want, but the presence of a ground prong on the plug often prevents. Electric shavers
with two pin plugs that are connected directly to mains voltage, power outlets
have no polarity.

Other things to consider before buying 12v
240v converters include things like fuses. The device you want the power can be
protected from overload by an internal fuse. This sometimes can be accessed
from the rear of the enclosure, but often have to open it to see the fuse.
Fortunately, the electronics manufacturers inform most of the fuses, either on
a label on the device or the user manual. If the fuse is not present (one
usually is), you can get a 12v adapter with built in fuse. A converter 240v to
12v dc often includes a fuse, in addition to the rectification circuits, and is
a good idea to have a fuse somewhere in the chain.
